Cuban Tree Snake Prey Items

An Inspiring Visual Tour of Cuban Tree Snake Prey Items

Cuban tree frogs are generalist predators and will eat almost any prey they can catch, overpower, and fit into their mouths. In the wild, they eat snails, millipedes, spiders, a wide variety of insects, and even small frogs, lizards, and snakes.

Documented vertebrate prey includes small lizards, such as brown anoles, and tiny snakes like the Florida brown snake. The Cuban Tree Frog is also a known predator of other frogs, consuming species like the southern leopard frog and various native tree frogs.

They prey on other amphibians, including native frogs, and exhibit cannibalistic behavior, eating smaller Cuban tree frogs. Small reptiles, such as geckos, lizards, and even small snakes, are also prey.

Context 3. ... presence of larger snakes in urban and savanna habitats is almost certainly related to the relative availability of larger prey items in those habitats, as evidenced by our prey sightings (Table 3) and the results of stomach contents analyses [7,33].
